Tahiti and Moorea Islands
My last week in FP. First 3 days on Tahiti than ferry to Mo'orea for 3 days and back to Tahiti for 2 days. Busy!
Without rental car I can’t imagine travelling on FP, not the way of travelling I prefer, deciding what to see and what to do by myself. The streets are good, signs not so, but if you are patient, you can find everything. And as I said, people are very friendly and helpful.
I made one longer hike on Tahiti called Le Pic Vert (The Green Peak). It’s medium level difficult hike due to some very steep parts and some parts of slippery path. The nature is great, the views are breathtaking. It took me 5 hours, both ways. 600 m ascend. Difficult also because of high humidity.
Booked Trip across Tahiti island was a little bit disappointing. Almost 6 hours in 4x4 car with open roof in a rainy day and not good visibility were probably main reasons for disappointment. Beside, the waterfalls are much nicer in Slovenia.
Mo'orea was the third island I visited. The Island is well known by its beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue sea. And it’s true. But the island is much more. I had only two days for discovering it. I made two short but very nice hikes to see the mountains and the see from the above. Magnificent.
Months from July to November are also known for whale watching on Mo'orea. The humpback whales come to Polynesia every year from Antarctica. Polynesia is their breeding ground. During this time they don’t eat. After breeding time they return to Antarctica. This year, they say, the number of whales is high. But it still took us more than two hours to find them. We were allowed to swim near them in the distance of two meters. We saw a mother with her baby and two more whales. I can’t describe my feelings when I saw them. I left Mo'orea with the thought of coming back once….
